During the planning of our home, we envisioned a landscape featuring two waterfowl habitats, for which we prepped two areas. In case the new owner ever wanted to have such a waterfowl/fish reserve or pond, there is the prepped area on the higher part of the property by the house connected with underground pipe between the two potenial habitat areas. (We have been told the State of Oregon has a grant system to help homeowners develop such habitats.)

Yet you are close to cultural resources, shopping, recreation, and services (i.e., 1.5 miles outside Newberg for groceries and gas; 22 miles SW of gorgeous Portland and the Columbia River; it is about 45 minutes to either Mt. Hood (to the east) or outstanding Oregon beaches to the west), and it is just 5 miles to the Willamette River featuring boating, fishing and swimming. THE FOLLOWING IS AN ARTICLE FROM THE SAT. FEB. 2, 2008 NEWBERG GRAPHIC NEWSPAPER ABOUT IMMEDIATE VICINITY AROUND FREEMAN HOME AND VIEW PROPERTY:

"Rivaling Napa, But Retaining Smaller-Town Farm-Life Quaintness"

By David Sale

The Yamhill County wine country has begun to attract national media attention.

The February issue of Gourmet Magazine (a Cond Nast publication) discussed the balancing act between tourism and agriculture in the Newberg/Dundee Hills.

The Cond Nast article quotes David Kahns description of one proposed hotel as the Auberge du Soleil of the Willamette, a reference to a California resort which the article itself goes on to characterize as a $525-minimum-a-night 'inn' that clings to a hillside above Napa Valley, where tourism has come to rival and even challenge agriculture.

Susan Sokol Blosser, and other winery owners, have thrown their support behind The Allison, an 85-room hotel and spa, with gourmet restaurant planned as part of a large mixed-use development on land owned by the Austin family, in northeast Newberg along Zimri Drive.

As this acreage is located inside Newbergs urban growth area, development has moved ahead swimmingly, according to project manager Joe Kavale.

(PLEASE NOTE: The Freeman property is ideally situated about one-half mile above this magnificient development with its many amenities, while retaining its private rural setting just outside Newberg's urban growth area.)

The article about the Zimri development continues: We haven't done the landscaping, but weve excavated the hillside, winterized the site, and are working on the footings. We hope to start going vertical, with the framing, later in February (2008). Scheduled to open in 2009, with a day spa as well as a gourmet restaurant and scenic views, the Zimri/Springbrook hotel seems poised to rival Napa.

In the words of Cond Nast, Newberg and surrounding areas "remain pristine farm towns where life and livelihood share a palpable connection, with none of Napas air of utter separation from (other lifestyles or even) menial labor.
